Can the Samsung 709 be cracked using the remote like the 807?

Up until recently it was thought that the only way to crack this player was to have a chip fitted from a supplier like those shown below:-

* I don't monitor these prices. They are a rough guide only

However it has now been found out that an Aiwa stereo remote (and now several others) can be used to change the region and disable the macrovision!

The region change resets itself when the player is switched off (even to standby I believe but please correct if wrong).

The procedure is :-

  1. Switch on the Samsung.
  2. Press the key(s) on the remote (refer to the table below).
  3. The drawer will eject and 'Adjust' will be shown on the screen.
  4. Insert a DVD (region 1 or 2)
  5. Close the drawer and the DVD will play.

How many times can I change the region?

Unknown at present. You can certainly change it over 25 times.

Do I have to enter the region crack every time I switch on?

No. Use the procedure below:-

  1. Press the hack key until 'Adjust' appears on the display.
  2. Go to the Samsung setup.
  3. Change the parental lock password to something different (it's 7777 by default).
  4. Change the parental lock to level 1.
  5. Return to the setup menu.

To play a DVD switch on and insert the DVD and enter 3521 when asked for the parental lock code.

You can now switch the parental lock level to unlocked to avoid having to enter the code when you switch on.

This technique survives a mains power off.
